Google chrome has this cool default feature where you can select a plain text url (non-linked) and right click to choose to open the link in a new tab. But, firefox doesn’t have this by default. Though any missing feature can be added installing by plugins, addons.

# URL Link (Install) Select Open Non-Links in New Tab [Firefox Addon]
URL Link is a small Firefox and Thunderbird extension that allows you to select a non-URL in a mail/news message or web-page, and open it in a browser window. In Chrome | In Firefox (with URL Link Addon) |
For web pages, it also allows you to select textual links/URLs in web pages or edit boxes, and follow them as if they were real links. It will also let you use actual links, and analyses mailto: links as well.
It analyses ‘mailto:’ links e.g., mailto:someone@somesite.com and can also ‘follow’ javascript: links that would otherwise generate a pop-up.
URL Link has a preferences dialogue allowing customization of the ‘not a proper URL’ sub-menu which converts, e.g., "sometext" to "www.sometext.com", so that locale-specific conversions can be added (like ‘www.*.co.uk’).
I discovered this extensions does more than just open plain text URLs in new tab. When you right-click on a plain text URL you are presented with these options (above) in your context menu. If you highlight a partial link (no http:// or www) or text you are presented with these options in your context menu.
Another, similar extension for Firefox is Plain Text Links (Link).
